Origin of Science and Science as a Religion

This talk discusses the relation between science and religion. The talk focuses on the change of religious thoughts in Europe from the early church father period to Reformation, and points to the connection between scientific studies and religious activities of the western society. In short, restrictions imposed on Bible interpretation also restricted the study of natural world in the early church history, and the breakthrough of religious activity during the reformation period helped the breakthrough in studies on the natural world. The danger of regarding science as an ultimate religion for modern people is discussed in the second part of the talk. In summary, reductionism and naturalism are the two ideas that pose certain danger to the human society.
